Apperson Loop Project | Official Road Name |
In the town of Bolton, private roads of a certain length get officially named and signed. Ours qualified and we were allowed to pick the name.
As you can see by the photo to the right, we chose "Heroes Loop" in honor of the Emergency Service personnel who gave their lives at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
When we began the project, we had planned on calling the road "Apperson Loop". The reasons for this can be found in the accompanying article on how the project got its name.
However, the course of history was changed by a couple of factors.
We already knew there was an "Apperson Lane" just outside of Bolton Landing but hoped it wouldn't conflict. But reading the road name application, it became clear that it just might. We needed to provide a second choice.
I had just finished a video tribute to the 23 NYPD members who were killed on Sept 11, 2001. The video was named "23 Heroes" - the same as the police launch named in their honor. We thought it would be fitting to name the road "Heroes Loop" (and try to get house number 23).
We like the idea so much, this became our first choice. We never did get house #23. But we did get "Heroes Loop".
