P.O. Jim Chambers Jim was appointed in June of 1963, and went to the 46 Pct. In June of 1967 he was transferred to Harbor. Over an eight year period he worked the entire command and ended up at Hart Island. In the fall of 1975 he moved to the LRS and did the budget and new boat specs and contracts. The 4 30’ launches were his last project. In June 1983 he left the job and went to New York Waterways to help with their startup and managed the Port Imperial Marina. He also managed Seaport Line for McAllister Bros for awhile. He has been, and continues to be a Captain for Spirit Cruises since 1995. In Nov 2003 he sailed the Irish 3 masted barque, Jeanie Johnston from Newfoundland to Ireland. For several years he was the Race Committee Chairman for the South Street Seaport Museum’s Mayor’s Cup Race. Jim now works as a consultant for Hornblower’s Statue Cruises. He lives in Battery Park City, and on the “Osprey” in New Jersey. Jim recently received his 10th Coast Guard license renewal. |

Lt. Carol WalkerCarol is living in Florida and does
volunteer work for Eckerd College in Carol also held a 100 Ton Captain's license. Carol joined the force in 1973 and her first assignment was on the scooter patrol in the Manhattan Traffic Area, was furloughed, came back, became an instructor in the Academy. Carol was accepted as the first woman into Harbor in 1984 and assigned to Harbor George. She later made lieutenant ,became the training coordinator and went on to become Harbor George Base Commander. She retired in 1988. |
